Hi Friends,
I know…..I know….I am taking long breaks now, thanks to my hectic schedule…Multitasking is pretty tough… I wonder how mom used to manage work, three kids, and home….Well you must be wondering where all this is leading to. That brings me back to ‘Das Auto’. Sounds like an auto dealer or may be Das the autowala!!!!
Now try to co-relate it with this amusing quote “I couldn’t afford a Volkswagen. Thus, Auto”, by anonymous.
Well, as the picture depicts, I saw it written on an auto. Quite a promotion for the Volkswagen guys I must say (not that they need any). I found it absolutely comical and had quite a blast. But a close friend of mine happened to give quite a different reaction…
Now we must all live with the assumption that Volkswagen’s famous slogan “Das Auto” is global in every sense of the word. However my assumption was caught unawares when this friend of mine asked in quite innocent way, “So is Volkswagen only sold by the Das automobile dealer?” I couldn’t help giggling at this innocent yet hilarious question…Just imagine Volkswagen showrooms across the globe, with the name ‘Das Dealers’.
Once I was done with my laughter bout, I gave my friend quite an explanation (me being me). The gist of which was the Volkswagen advertisement. So basically ‘Das Auto’ slogan is used by Volkswagen, which stands for ‘The Car’. ‘I couldn’t afford a Volkswagen, Thus, Auto’, a satirical statement, takes a dig on both the high pricing and the slogan of Volkswagen (Das: pronounced dahs, rhymes with Thus).
Having shared this detail I was quite sure that my friend would catch up with the joke, which he did and we sure had fun. This incident however brought into light my obliviousness on the fact that not everything is global. It is funny how we expect most people to know what we know, and overlook the fact that we ourselves are ignorant in many ways. Very often we end up mocking people on their unfamiliarity towards certain popular trends, news items or widespread terminologies. Have we ever pondered on our own crudeness? Have we assimilated all the knowledge?
The truth is we are all ignorant in one way or the other. The very aspect of one knowing more than the other is absurd, as the truth is different people know different things. We cannot judge people based on their awareness about certain things, or their lack of knowledge on a particular topic, as it may be just that the subject of their interest is different from ours.
We are all learning something or the other each day. With this new enlightenment, this is Satrangee Parachute sailing into new grounds of knowledge.
