As each day passes by I realize that Life has changed in a tumultuous manner in the past few years. Things have changed, surroundings have been modified, I have traveled around, changed flats, seen new faces but the most important is the change in human nature that has stuck me with awe..
Its amazing the way changes take place. they may be good, bad, neutral. It is not like I haven’t been affected at all. I have grown in age and also as a person. Learnt valuable lessons, had had wonderful insights but the worst of all was having to see the villainous facet of the world that we live in.
Every morning I piously turn the pages of the newspapers and each day without fail there comes a news about suicides, harassment. Death though a natural process seems to exist in the most unnatural way. Rather than deaths due to old age or diseases, those that fill the pages are mostly caused by human actions. Actions that have irrevocable consequences, that tend to leave deep scars in the lives of the affected. It hurts to see that even after walking this far in terms of education, technology, and the so called modern ideology, the world seems to be still stuck to orthodox thinking, and lame practices which a few consider to be honourable…
It is written on the cover page of Honour Based violence awareness network that ‘There is no honour in killing’..What could be more true than this line which some people tend to ignore these days…. What drives them to take such cruel actions? What makes them so blind that they kill their own loved ones? All in the name of honour!
Caste, creed, religion, language and many more walls that have been built around by the society. It was thought that with the spread of education all these would gradually come down and that there would be unity, brotherhood and understanding…But alas! nothing seems to work in the manner it had been envisaged. Education has not only failed in broadening the mindsets of people, it has rather become a platform by which manipulated interpretations are given to inhuman actions.
The value of human life has been forgotten. Things like family’s name have more importance than human life. Getting married without the permission of the family may be wrong but does not deserve death sentence. This is one issue where irrespective of the gender, individuals who try to take a hold on their lives are killed just to satisfy the chauvinism of family members..In some cases even mere suspicion paves the path to ghastly murders. Ideology may be one thing but killing one’s own blood takes huge strength. What makes them do so?? The mere reason that those who were killed tended to deviate from the path that their parents or relatives had for them. And the worst part is that people who are capable of committing such crimes hardly ever regret their actions, they are blind folded by their own ideas and values which for them is the only right thing in the world…For them it is HONOURABLE.
Many young people have lost their lives due to Honour Killing, that has increased in prevalence these days. It is high time that people realize that giving birth does not give the right to kill…Just because he/she is a part of your family does not mean that it gives you the right to dictate their lives. After an age every individual has the right to decide the course of his/her life. Life is precious and it isn’t meant to be taken away on the basis of personal grudge.
Let the souls of all who were murdered in cold blood, all in the name of Honour find peace. Praying that no longer be a human life considered less worthy than human ego. Wishing that the world becomes a better place to live in, this is Satrangee Parachute signing off.

This is what makes me sad, when I see the brutality in the backdoors of our nation (particularly towns)..A life is taken in the name of honor when the most important honor should be in respecting lives of individuals..Education has certainly helped to come out of the menace for sometime, but then our generation should be intellectual enough to apply and change their thought process to spread humanity..
Very true Sworen. Its now in the hands of this generation to put and end to such Absurd thoughts that prevail in the society. I am glad that among all the changes happening around us entertainment media has also taken active initiatives by launching programmes like Satyamev Jayate, Crime patrol etc, and the most recent attempt in the form of a movie Ishaqzaade which directly points towards honor killing.
