Guten Abend Freunde,

Most of us grew up watching Rescue Rangers– Chip, Dale, Gadget, Monty & Zipper….Well I used to be a huge fan, and must say that I still am..The interesting gadgets the amazing episodes. One can never forget those lovely hours spent in front of the television praying that the episode ends before dad comes back from work. The most important thing that still hangs to our minds is their spirit to help, rescue and be active at all times, even if it meant dragging Monty away from his precious CHEESE….:)

Well now that I have managed to create the mood let me continue with my story which is the story of a boy and a girl. The very characters from one of my post for those who remember…Kids can be really active at times & their minds are capable of imagining beyond boundaries….

One Saturday morning the boy and the girl were as usual busy playing. It was a holiday for some unknown reason. They had set up their things in the veranda and as usual the boy was busy tinkering and the girl moved around talking continuously. The boy as you know is very curious and restless he needs action, so after playing for sometime he decided that cycling would be a better option. He headed towards his bicycle closely followed by the girl who clearly thought that whatever the boy did was cool…:)

They cycled on the cemented path for some time and found that at few places the cement had worn out and so the path was not very smooth. This seemed to annoy the boy a lot. He parked his bicycle at the spot he had assigned for himself, and walked o the spot where there was a hole in the pavement. Having inspected the depth and damage he now walked in search of a proper tool. He found a cardboard piece which seemed apt for his current endeavor. The girl was assigned the task of gathering mud and depositing it in the holes, the boy would then level it with his leveling equipment. While this work was in progress they heard an unusual sound. Concerned, they left their work behind and set out in search of this sudden gushing sound.

Questions arose in the tiny minds…where was this sound was coming from? After walking around the quarters they found that a large amount of water was falling down from the terrace. “What should we do?”, they asked each other. Panic stricken they decided to alert everyone that the terrace had flooded and soon their homes would be drowned…. The Boy decided to alert the people downstairs and the girl was sent upstairs…Huffing and Puffing the Boy ran into his house and yelled at the top of his voice “Maa, bohut saara paani aa raha hai, baadh aa rahi hai” (there’s lot of water, its a flood). His mother was worried to hear her son’s declaration, flood?? She calmly held the screaming child and asked him where the water was coming from, “terrace se maa (from the terrace mom)”, he replied half screaming and crying…..Upstairs the girl was yelling at a similar pitch, describing the water falling from above….

It didn’t take much time for the elders to realize that the water tank had been filled and the excess water was falling down through the overflow. The motor was switched off and slowly the flow stopped. The boy and the girl were overjoyed, their timely action had saved the quarters from drowning. The Rescue Rangers had succeeded again….Little did they understand that what they had considered to be a threat to their lives was a normal overflow quite common in most apartments…It may be a child’s perception of danger that fueled their action, but the fact that they actually did something that most of us would have failed to even notice is commendable and ought to be appreciated. And if we look closely, what they did in latent manifestation is save WATER.

How many of us actually try to save water? The taps remain open most of the time irrespective of whether it is needed or not. Leaks hardly bother us because water is abundant and almost free. One part of India nearly faced droughts this year and the other parts were flooded with excess…It is the latent effects of our callousness towards nature. Global warming, Ozone depletion, rising of ocean level etc,etc are real issues not mere speculations. Why not think like little children for a while…embrace nature and do something in return for all that mother nature has given us, after all it is OUR EARTH….

Friends let us pledge to save nature in our own little ways, plant a tree, save water, avoid throwing plastic wastes in open, save electricity and so on…Let us take a small step towards a better tomorrow. Let us be our nature’s Rescue Rangers…With these thoughts this is Satrangee Parachute flying towards a greener Earth…

Hello Friends,

How have all of you been?..I am just the same. Was on a short vacation, back home relaxing .Spending some quality time with my loved ones .Life in Quarters(colony) is amazing full, of new experiences. New stories if you keenly observe. I am back after the short commercial break. I know most of you are here anticipating a cute boy meets girl story, how they met and what happens next etc etc Et cetera…..Well sorry to say it’s not one of my observations on teen romance…Then what is it???
I need not tell you about my infatuation towards kids..It is a well-known fact that I love children and I feel happiest when I am with them. So this story as you must have by now rightly guessed is about two kids, a boy and a girl.

The protagonists of my story are actually my neighbors, and I have had the pleasure of watching them play. The boy is about Five years old and the girl must be a year older. It is not that I don’t know their names but as you know, maybe someday they may sue me for telling their story. So to be on the safer side, it is just the boy and the girl….

Kids have their own personality, an Individual characteristic of their own. The Boy is an Enthusiast, ready to take up challenges that come his way. He is like the mini version of George Clooney. Confident, self-assured, and handsome…:)..The Girl is a doll…Cute, charming, thoughtful, talkative…She has a viewpoint for everything, which more or less are mostly ignored by the boy or turn out to be substantially wrong…Now that sounds similar to the boy meets girl scenario… Nevertheless it is the conversations between them that catch your attention…

Their talks may begin from gardening to stories in the school textbooks. Most of the time they run on parallel tracks with no point of intersection. The Boy tends to be engrossed in self-prescribed duties, while the girl likes to chatter about her school, lessons etc (I know that the guys reading this must be thinking…”how typically girlish!”, no offence taken but that’s a general perception…) By large it is an odd conversation that takes place…For instance the boy says “Do you know we have to water the plants for them to grow”…and the girl says “Lali ki bakri kho gayi thi…(Lali had lost her goat)”….well that’s the way it goes…

This odd pair spends most of their evenings playing in mud, cycling, leveling the ground, jumping under trees and many such activities. I tend to observe them from the kitchen window, hidden from their view…

The Great Gardeners

One afternoon I was manning my post as usual at the kitchen window when the boy walked towards the garden holding a rod with a slight bend at the end.   At first I thought it must be something he must have picked just for fun, but later on I realized that it was supposed to be a pickax (a tool used to dig holes). His companion arrived just after empty handed….

The task of digging is highly energy consuming, and requires great deal of patience as without proper tools the mud tends to fall back into the pit. The boy started digging, sound of metal hitting the ground followed by a tiny moan. Metal meets ground. And the moan.. and so on….The girl asked ” what are you doing?” The boy replied “I am digging a hole to grow a plant”…Ohhhh!!! the girl exclaimed….

Well after some extra human efforts he did succeed in making a hole, using the rod and his tiny hands as tools. The success must have encouraged him as he moved on to a new spot to make another hole. Which was closely followed by another, and yet another…So after some time the tiny patch right in front of our kitchen was converted into maze of tiny holes (the kind that could hold a table tennis ball at the most)..

All this while the girl was either watching or busy playing some weird game which I could not decipher. When the boy had dug a few holes the girl seemed to catch an interest in the proceedings, so she sweetly asked the boy whether she could help. Why not just join in said the boy. The Girl chose a spot to dig, but unfortunately the place she had chosen had a small rock. As she understood that digging on a rock surface would be futile she decided to move the rock first… She dug at the sides slowly and keenly, removed the mud that stuck to it, slowly shook the rock and after some time managed to pry the rock out…And what did she find????

The place where the rock sat was carved into a well-shaped hole. It was naturally formed. With great excitement she cried out to the boy “hey there is already a hole here, come see”…The boy who was all along busy digging, replied in a matter of fact manner “So what, No problem….. just dig elsewhere…”

With this the girl lost her enthusiasm and went back to playing. The boy started planting twigs in the holes he had made..piled up mud around them and managed to make them stand..Went into his home, came back with a glass filled with mineral water and watered his plants…….With that final act his work for the day ended, and he and his friend walked back to their respective homes.
Kids are pure at heart, they tend to follow the rules of hard work rather than smart work. It is the innocence that makes them do so. That is the very reason why a well made natural hole was totally ignored and a tiny hole made by one’s own hands appraised. Hoping to find such innocence, its Satrangee Parachute flying on……..

Hola Amigos!

Have you ever felt that kids have a world of their own? That in their world we are giants?…Well I feel that its a world of pygmies and giants…Where the kids are the former and grown ups the latter… Its a beautiful place, a child’s paradise..The safest, the calmest and the most technicolor and exiting world. Quite unlike the hectic, stressful, black & white life of a grown up…

Whenever you have time to spare, spend some time with a child…Many of you may find children to be annoying, demanding constant attention and even more tough is the task to  understand what they try to say in their funny baa…booo language…

For starters I would say my dear friends…. relax….put down that huge sack of burdens, pressures and stress that you carry..Its almost like meditation…Just sit back and watch a child playing on his/her own…They hardly care that they are alone once they get busy playing…..

Watch a child play and you can see that for him/her every thing is a miracle be it a colored cube, a jingling bell, or even a piece of paper….I still remember a nephew of mine who used to love newspapers. I used to tell that he loved going alphabet by alphabet because of his pleasure of tearing it into tiny bits…He worked as the Mini shredder at home…: )

Such are things we will never be able to reason with…For no particular reason my li’l brother used to love ants..I guessed because they crawled with him..and maybe he found the legs amazing !!!!
It’s in a child’s world where we should learn to appreciate the little things in life..no matter how insignificant they may seem…how illogical it may be to our trained adult minds…take a break and enjoy the tiny miracles of life…

As a matter of fact no matter how old we grow…I can bet that watching a firefly will still make you stop and watch…..Children are just like fireflies they glow today so watch them as keenly you can coz tomorrow they are also going to join our rung…..

I have spent the best moments of my life amongst tiny tots…and can spend hours in their world of colors, flies, huge vessels (which they find very interesting)…responding to their baa’s and boos with aahs and oohs…In a child’s paradise….
Their world is on cloud nine just like my Satrangee Parachute…

Hi Friends,

Hope you guys are having a rocking life..Some of you busy earning, some busy spending, and some studying hard to earn lots (that includes me)……MONEY…the factor that runs life today….Here in the photo with me are two kids who are also part of this great money race… The only difference being they do it to survive and we, to have a comfortable life……..

They are my angels…a smile of theirs brings a smile on many faces including mine. It is circumstance that leads man to do what he does….poverty being the biggest of these. Most of us are privileged to have been born at homes where our needs were duly taken care of, we have often been bestowed much more than what we needed. We, my dear  friends were lucky, but not all in the world are as lucky as us….

Born in a family of 6 or more, these kids have to work in their family business which includes tea stalls, dhabas, cobbling , rag picking etc ( my angels are tea vendors)…The rule of the stomach works here, each member works in his/her own capacity to have the basic necessities…..A simple meal of Roti and sabji to their fill every day is their only aim…..Ice creams, chocolates, pastries are like dreams to those little children who learn to work even before they learn to walk properly. While we relentlessly spend our money on our food craving, make faces at the food made at home, and throw away the food just because we couldn’t eat it, there are others who can hardly afford one time meal, and have to go to bed with empty stomach.

Roti, Kapda, Makaan are the basic requirements of life. These people can hardly afford it to the fullest….A borderline living like theirs leads to deficiency, malnutrition, hygiene related issues etc…. When we while our time to select branded clothes at the malls these kids 1/4th our age wear donated clothes and toil all day long…Why don’t we buy them new clothes instead?? Why don’t we go and make them understand the worth of education? Why don’t we offer them a good meal? Why don’t we say a few good words to them? WHY??? Are we too sacred to take the challenge or do we think that it would end up being a liability?? Just do whatever little you can do…..

A few of us have taken the first step, by teaching these kids daily, and are planning on funding their future education with our money… Hope the parents stay convinced because they would lose the working hands if the kids go to school  ( it is not that they do not want their children educated, its their struggle to earn that makes them think so)…..I request all my friends to look around, how many such kids live around you? Start an initiative in your own way, Believe me there is no joy bigger than the pleasure of watching them learn…They are angels from heaven, giving us a chance to be better humans….

Hoping that we shall all pave the way for a Better India….This is me watching an India of change from my Satrangee Parachute……

Hey friends,

I am new to the world of blogging, recently inspired by reading the blog of one of my very dear friend. Today I took the big step, created a blog of my own. During the entire process, I kept wondering what I was supposed to write about. I referred to a few websites for startup, but gradually I came to understand that, whatever I write it has to be something of my own; My thoughts, my words. Hence I decided to blog about ME… Hey don’t worry, I will not bore you with my likes and dislikes list for sure.

I go to the Church every Sunday. Yesterday I went to church as usual, took a seat on the second last bench, sat praying. As it is human nature to be a bit conscious about the surroundings, I wasn’t exactly meditating :). Just as the mass was about to begin, a family of three filed in to the bench just ahead. A cute family, husband, wife and a child of about 1-1.5yrs old. I couldn’t help noticing the child, such huge inquisitive eyes, that innocent face. Little did I know that by the end of the mass I was going to be kicked by the very child.

Let me explain the course of events that led to such an act.

The mass had begun and as usual all of us had the Hymn Book, with blue bind, not forgetting to say the child’s (as I shall refer him) parents had one too. Most of you know that a mass has a lot of sitting and standing phases, so at one such sitting phase the child slid across the bench to the other end armed with the blue book, and as a kid would do started playing with it.. Eventually he made a discovery the aunt sitting ahead has a book too, now why not play with two?? So he plays with both the books and ends up leaving his own copy on the bench at front and slides back to his parents quite happily. This was the start of the commotion. His father started looking for the book sideways, underneath followed by his mother, and these actions surely got the crowd’s attention.. (only of the crowd which stood behind). The parents asked the child, but the child was busy looking around. It took a while for everyone who knew where the book was to control the giggles. Anyway, we had to because we were in the Church. Then started his next work, a tactic I would call Juggling with the book, that is to say the book goes over the table and under it, passed by these tiny hands, I couldn’t help wondering how kids enjoy such small things.. well this juggling session brought back a book for his parents, depriving the people who had been using it till then. Then begins their search. This time people ahead started the searching bout…

Quite an entertainment for us backbenchers..

By this time the child, bored with playing with the same book, started a cleaning session. Cleaning the bench with his handkerchief. While doing so, he looked up and saw me watching. I gestured him to stop doing that which must have encouraged him to do the same task with more vigor. Again he looked at me and I motioned, don’t do that.. Lo! He climbed on the bench asked his mother to look behind. The lady turned back, and I grinned sheepishly. I had had enough fun, so I focused on the prayer. That was when I felt something hitting my legs. I opened my eyes to see the lady next to me holding the child’s legs as he was sitting facing me and trying to hit me with his legs. I moved my legs back. The child slid downward, the aunt next to me warding him off. Good for me that his mom turned back and had to rush out holding him. All of us had fun, observing him, watching him. I got kicked, but the joy of watching such innocent actions was worth it.

The child brought back a lot of sweet memories, those days of innocence when any colorful thing became one’s object of desire. Watching a rainbow made us feel happy when we dreamt of flying high. Life is colorful…. enjoy every minute.

Color your dreams and fly high on the Satrangee Parachute.
